The government’s Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) scheme, which offers 100 per cent first year capital allowances to businesses that invest in technologies meeting energy efficiency criteria, has experienced widespread uptake by manufacturers. This can be seen through the number of applications for products to be listed on the Energy Technology List soaring since Carbon Trust took over the management and promotion of the scheme on 5th August 2002.
Since August, application figures have increased with over 376 applications by manufacturers being made, compared to just 66 during the previous seven months. 179 of these applications and 1225 individual products have already proved successful.
Andy Lewry, ECA manager, Carbon Trust, commented, ‘We are definitely seeing the results of the past year’s promotion of the scheme and have received useful feedback from manufacturers and trade associations and consumers which will aid us in making additional improvements where needed.’
